Can I really shrink my large skin pores?
Trying to shrink your large skin pores.
Many products claim to shrink your pores. There is no cream or ointment or skin care regime that can change this fact. Your pores get filled with oil which enlarges the opening of the pores.
You can keep pores from getting bigger and make them appear smaller, but there's no way to permanently shrink your pores.
The plain truth is this: pores don't shrink. Pores are not little openings that can expand and contract like muscles. They do expand or stretch, but pores are not so elastic that they can contract to their former, smaller state.
Skin pore size is genetically pre-determined. Pores will become larger if not cleaned and dead skin can accumulate. And once the pore is stretched, it doesn't shrink back.
Skin care for large skin pores
Start by cleansing daily with an exfoliating cleanser. Then apply a product containing salicylic acid or retinol - these ingredients treat clogged pores by dissolving and gently removing blackheads and embedded sebum.
Weekly deep cleansing treatments like Detoxification Mud will help maintain your clear skin. So while your pores may not shrink you can keep them healthy and stop from getting larger.
Shrinking skin pore size tips
Pore size is nearly impossible to change, says Richard Glogau, M.D., a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California at San Francisco. However, you can make them less noticeable. Try applying a topical retinoid, like Retin-A or Renova, which spurs new collagen growth, helps unclog pores and makes skin appear smoother. Retin-A and Renova require a prescription, but there are also over-the-counter formulas, such as Neutrogena's Pore Refining Cream with SPF 15 and Avon's Anew Advanced All-In-One Self-Adjusting Perfecting Lotion. Don't turn to procedures like chemical peels and lasering, because they can leave your pores exposed at a deeper, wider level, Dr. Glogau advises.
There is an upside to having large pores: Because this skin type tends to be more oily, it wrinkles less than dry, fine-textured complexions.
